Roman Day in Maserati Class: A Journey Back in Time!
Last Friday, Maserati class was transformed into Ancient Rome as children took part in an exciting and educational Roman Day! The children arrived dressed as gladiators, soldiers, emperors’ daughters, and even the goddess Venus.
Throughout the day, the children participated in a variety of hands-on activities that brought Roman history to life. They created their own Roman coins using clay and foil, practicing ancient craftsmanship skills. Writing in the ancient Roman alphabet was another highlight, giving them a glimpse of how communication worked centuries ago.
The day also included a fun engineering challenge—building a working aqueduct! The children used their creativity and teamwork to replicate the famous Roman water systems. They also learned about Roman numerals, practiced weaving as the Romans did, and moulded their very own clay oil lamps.
In true Roman fashion, the day began with a tasting of Roman-inspired foods. Everyone enjoyed sampling food that gave them a taste of ancient Roman culture.
Roman Day was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn through experience and imagination, making history come alive in a truly memorable way!
Non-Fiction Writing in Maserati Class: Exploring “The Big Book of Blooms”
This term, Maserati Class has been diving into the world of non-fiction writing, with a focus on plants through the beautiful and informative The Big Book of Blooms. The children have been learning all about the characteristics of non-fiction texts, such as headings, factual information, labels, and diagrams.
Each child chose a plant to research and wrote their own non-fiction information page, inspired by the style of the book. From exotic flowers to everyday garden plants, the children wrote detailed descriptions, ensuring to include key facts and unique features of their chosen plant.
To make this writing project even more special, they used oil pastels to create vibrant, artistic front pages for their individual sections. The result will be their very own Big Book of Blooms, a stunning combination of creativity and knowledge that showcases their growing non-fiction writing skills.
Maserati Class Pen Pals with Akrotiri Primary School in Cyprus
Maserati Class has been learning all about informal letter writing in a fun and meaningful way by becoming pen pals with children from Akrotiri Primary School, a forces school in Cyprus. They exchanged letters, sharing details about their lives, schools and the places they live in.
Through these letters, the children in Maserati Class got a chance to ask questions about life in Cyprus and learn about the experiences of children living in a different country. In return, they shared stories about their own community and daily routines.
This pen pal project not only helped them practice their informal writing skills, but also allowed them to build connections and gain insight into the lives of other students in a different part of the world. Everyone is excited to keep writing and learning from their new friends!
